The master rebater

I bought an OCZ memory kit from NCIX in late December for the new computer I bought from Future Shop. Specifically, I bought the Platinum XTC PC2-6400 CL5-4-4-15 kit that comes with 2 sticks of RAM at 2GB each. My computer came with 2 sticks of 1GB RAM for a total of 2GB. Well, that wasn’t enough for what I wanted to do with my computer (e.g. run a virtual PC while doing other development work with Visual Studio). The problem was that my computer also came with only 2 slots for RAM. This meant that by buying buying this RAM kit, I was sacrificing that 2GB that came with my computer.

Luckily, the OCZ RAM at NCIX came with a generous set of rebate opportunities. You know the drill: cut out the UPC, photocopy the receipt, etc, etc. I mailed two separate rebates in early January - one for $5 and the other for $25. The OCZ communication was good. They emailed me with a status update on my rebate and when the cheque was approved, and the cheque numbers. I received both my rebate cheques today after only a 10-week wait!

So what did I do with my 2 1GB RAM sticks? I put one in my computer at work and lent the other to Dennis. So far, no crashes or BSODs so compatibility seems to be a good match. I’m able to allocate a bit more RAM to one of the Virtual PC’s I run at work to do my SharePoint stuff (Windows Server 2003) while being able to run a 2nd Virtual PC (Windows XP) for other development work.

I don’t know who does the rebate fulfillment service for OCZ but so far my experience has been favourable.

A+++ Highly Recommended. Will do business with again.
