Our 2008 trip to Hawaii

At The Beach

We went to several beaches during our stay and I’d have to say, the Kahanamoku Beach in front of the Rainbow Tower was probably my least favourite. Sure it was close by but that’s part of the problem: it felt very urban and “commercial”. It’s still a lot nicer than crowded Waikiki beach or Kuhio beach which are more easily accessible to the public. On the other hand, Kailua beach and nearby Lanikai are my favourite beaches. We visited Lanikai beach two years ago but only got to visit Kailua beach this year. Both are quiet beaches with fine powdery sand.

Photo tip: Use either an underwater one-time-use film camera or an underwater case for your digital camera when shooting in the water. A dedicated underwater case for the Canon A570IS is very expensive. I opted to use a locking pouch called an Aquapac. It worked quite well.
